Reconstructed from memory. The dates are mainly guesswork.
Spent a lot of time on the logging functions on my ISDN code. Now I get a system log message for
every incoming call, including phone number—something that is otherwise difficult to get.
Bingo! An incoming call, one of those typical “let him answer and then hang up” ones. But
I had the number, somewhere in Lauterbach. Call back: “You
called, but our connection got disconnected”. I wasn't quite prepared for the answer “Yes,
I want to buy your house”.
Oh. Called him around, a certain Udo Beyer, and we came to an agreement relatively quickly.
But that leave us with a problem: where do we move to? Texas? Yvonne is still keen, but I have my doubts about being a foreigner in the USA. France? At least
Yvonne is French, so I wouldn't have any difficulties either—except for getting work. I'm
off to the USA next week, so I can do a bit of looking around there.
First day of the networking class today. Something different: all the participants are from
China, and most of them didn't speak English, so I lectured and Tim Wang translated for
them. It seems to be working well, though a number of them seem more interested in finding
sexually explicit content on the Internet.
Do you have a comment about something I have written? This is a diary, not a
“blog”, and there is
deliberately no provision for directly adding comments. It's also not a vehicle
for third-party content. But I welcome feedback and try to
reply to all messages I receive. See the diary overview for more details. If you do
send me a message relating to something I have written, please indicate
whether you'd prefer me not to mention your name. Otherwise
I'll assume that it's OK to do so.
