When we moved in to our house in Dereel in July 2007, we had a grove of large evergreen trees (I think some Pittosporum species) to the north-east of the house. It was ideal for sitting under on milder summer days, and the view upwards reminded us of the vaults of a cathedral, so we called the area the “cathedral”.
Unfortunately, it didn't last. The trees were old, and summer 2008-2009 in particular proved too much for the trees. One by one, branch by branch, they came down, the last in November 2011. We're replacing them by silver birches, but it'll be a while before they look like trees.
